Description

This is the necklace that started it all. This was the first pro life design created by Joshua the Jeweler that inspired the Precious Life Jewelry business. Made from real 1964 quarters which were minted in 90% silver this necklace prominently displays the words that have been stamped on US currency for over a century including “Liberty” and “In God We Trust.” The cutout image of a precious baby in the womb serves as a reminder that the right to Life and Liberty have been unjustly taken from many an unborn child. Additionally a coin is an object whose primary purpose is an exchange of value which leads to the question, “how much is a life worth?”

What significance does 1964 have in the history of the fight for precious life?

In 1964 every US state criminalized abortion to some degree, but public sentiment about abortion had been changing due in part to a liberally administered pregnancy drug called Thalidomide that was causing widespread birth defects. In 1964 an organization called the Association for the Study of Abortion (ASA) was founded by Alan Guttmacher (then president of Planned Parenthood) among others. The purpose of the ASA was to study abortion in order to promote its legalization. This was the first organization to push for the legalization of abortion on a national scale and their work had a direct impact on the testimony that led to Roe V. Wade in 1973. 1964 was also the year when the Civil Rights Act was passed, ironically, while the rights of black Americans were being championed, a movement was already under way to take away the fundamental rights of their unborn children.

Ring sizing guide

How to measure your ring size at home

Step 1: Gather supplies

You will need the following items to measure your ring size:

  • A sheet of paper
  • Scissors
  • A marker
  • A ruler (with millimeter measurements)
  • Our size conversion chart  (see below)

Fold about 1/4 inch of the paper to create a strip

It’s ok if it’s not perfect but try to keep it a fairly consistent width of about 1/4 inch.

This step is optional but it will help you know which end to measure from later.

Starting with the unmarked end of the strip, wrap it all the way around your finger until you reach the other end with the mark. Make sure that it is wrapped as snugly as possible around the portion of your finger where the ring will sit. (Tip, you can tear the strip smaller so it is easier to wrap.)

While holding the strip tightly in place, use the marker to make a mark directly on the seam where the end of the strip overlaps itself. You may want to have a friend help with this step.

Measure from the very edge of the strip, where you marked in step 4, to the outer edge of the mark you made along the seam. We recommend using millimeters for a more precise reading. This measurement is the circumference that will be used in the next step.

Compare your measurement to the chart below to find your ring size. Note, our chart is specially formulated to give an accurate measurement, using another ring size chart may yield incorrect results. If your measurement is between two sizes then use the smaller size. For example, in the photos above the measurement of 65mm would yield a size 10.

We strongly recommend you verify your ring size by going to a local jewelry shop or department store with a jewelry section. Ask the sales rep to measure your finger size (they will usually do this for free). Alternatively you can ask if they can measure a ring that you know fits or if they have a ring in stock of the desired size. When trying on rings it is important that the ring feels snug and catches somewhat when pulled over the knuckle to ensure it will not fall off. Please note that people have unique hand shapes, some have large knuckles and bony fingers while others have thin knuckles and chunky fingers so the right size for you might differ slightly from somebody else even though they seem to measure the same.

Congrats you found your ring size!

"Do you Carry my size?"

So you found the perfect ring on our website, but your size is not an option, now what? Not to worry, if your size is off by 1/4 size but is between available options consider choosing a 1/4 size lower if you like a more snug feel, or 1/4 larger if you like to keep things loose. If you need exactly 1/4 between sizes just add a note on the checkout page or email us to let us know. If your desired size is outside the available range, either smaller or larger, please send us an email and most likely we can adjust the ring to fit your size as a special order item.
